Real name: Jytte Sneum

Danish classical guitarist, 1913-2008, raised in Valparaiso, Chile. In 1939 Gorki Schmidt was the first in Denmark to take a music pedagogical exam with classical guitar as the main instrument (at Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen). In the early 1960s, she took charge of establishing the new guitar class at Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium where she was an associate professor from 1963 to 1978. The Gorki Schmidt surname is from a short marriage with the painter Arne Gorki Schmidt whom she married when she was only 19 years old. After marriage to the painter Rikard Sneum in 1945 - with whom she had two children - she continued to work professionally under the name Jytte Gorki Schmidt.
