Real name: على حسن أحمد كوبان (᾽Alī Ḥasan Aḥmad Kūbān)

Ali Kubana (1929, Gotha, Aswan, Southern Egypt – 2001) was an Egyptian Nubian singer and bandleader. He moved to Cairo in 1944 and has been active in the local scene since the late 1940s. In 1988 he was "discovered" by western (German) musicians who invited him to hold several concerts in Europe. He was launched in Europe as a "world music sensation" under the name Ali Hassan Kuban and released several albums under that name the following years.
