Sammy Stewart
Jazz pianist, organist and bandleader, born 1890 in Circleville, Ohio, died August 5, 1960 in New York City.
Played long residencies with own band in Chicago from 1923, worked off and on in New York 1926-1930, from then on lied in New York. Led own band during 1930s, also with Ikey Robinson in 1933. During 1940s played organ at the Golden Gate Ballroom, continued to lead a sextet through the late 1940s. During 1950s taught piano and organ.
