Davide Serra

Davide Serra, aka Don Arres (pseudonym Italianized in Dan Arres, in imitation of the American pronunciation of "Don").

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1913 or in 1914.
Died in the United States on June 10, 1999
Son of the famous international tenor Daniele Serra (2), he arrived in Italy at a very young age and graduated from the Pietro Verri High School in Milan, the city where his father had settled for business reasons.
With a powerful baritone voice, he comes into contact with American music on his many overseas trips. He was struck by the style of the nascent crooners and decided to imitate their style. Around 1935, he began his recording career for the label La Voce del Padrone in a duet with his father, who from the early 1930s, had a stable contract with the aforementioned record company. After a period of silence, he returned to record regularly in Italy in 1938 always for the same label, adopting the pseudonym of Dan Arres (the surname is none other than Serra written in reverse) .The monthly supplements to the catalogs of the Voice of the Master of the period 1938- 1939, reports some news of the overseas tours of father and son Serra: first they move together to South America, then Daniele moves to New York while Davide remains some time in the South. It is difficult to accurately reconstruct Davide Serra's numerous trips around for the world. It is known that in September 1938 he headed to New York on the "Grasse" steam starting from Le Havre (France) and then moving to South and returning to New York in April 1939 on the American Oriente steam coming from Havana (Cuba) .6 In 1940 he was again established in New York where he collaborated with the famous pianist Ezio Levi. In the same year he formed his own orchestra with which he recorded some pieces in the rhythm of conga for Decca. In the following years he continues to have successes in America and Canada and his face printed on the scores of his successes becomes more and more known to the public.
From the sixties onwards, he dedicates himself to television and cinema: his first interesting works are in 1961, when he took part in the short movie "Vote for Michalski", and in 1965 when he played the role of Gerard in the television series "Seaway".
