ALX

Real name: Alexander Ross

Effective period / Period of releases: 2004 - 2005

Producer from the South West of England

"I'm Alex Ross, a dance music producer based in the south west of England.

I make wide range of styles, centred around music which is fun and doesn't take itself too seriously (though I do take the creation of it seriously!). Over the years I've released loads of remixes and a few singles, appearing alongside all kinds of well known and less known artists, mainly under the ALX pseudonym but also using a few other names.

The main styles I work in are: Hands Up, Bounce (also known as Scouse House or Donk depending on who you're talking to) and Electro, but I also dabble in other styles like Bassline, UK Funky, Hardcore, Drum & Bass, Dubstep and more.

Also... I'm well aware that my music can get a bit cheesy at times. But then I'm making music that's supposed to be fun and not taken too seriously. I'm not making music for the twats who stand on the dancefloor wearing glasses with no lenses in discussing the merits of the latest dubplate by some unknown German techno producer that Mixmag recently jizzed all over. It's DANCE music."

Studio Equipment:

24" iMac - 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Logic 9.1
KRK Rokit RP5 active Monitors
E-MU Xboard-61 MIDI Controller
Edirol UA1A Audio Interface
Eurorack UB1202 Mixer
IKEA Jerker Desk (a classic!)

...and that's pretty much it. I don't use any hardware synths, all my sounds are made using softsynths. Some of the ones I use most include Rob Papen Albino, Lennar Digital Sylenth1, EXS24 Sampler (which I've been loading with sounds for years) and ReFx Nexus is always useful for those bread n butter sounds.

The other thing in the picture is a Hercules DJ Controller, which is always good fun if you're bored. And if you use it properly it's actually a prettIy good substitute for CDJs. Despite being sold in Argos.
