Even though this release only features 6 songs, the band considers this to be a full-length album, due to its total length of time.
It was recorded in the spring of 1997, and planned to be released by July of 1997, for the band's first east coast tour. But Eulogy instead used the funds to release its second release, the Red Letter Day EP, forcing the band to dub a handful of tapes to take with them on tour. Eulogy then promised to have the album out in time for the bands second tour in December of 1997, which took them all the way north to Canada, but Eulogy once again opted to press its third release, New Day Rising's album "Memoirs of Cynicism". It was finally in late February of 1998 that Eulogy pressed the CDs for "Self, Dare You Still Breathe?", but Bird of Ill Omen went under hiatus in March and never toured with the proper release.
