Hampton The Hampster

Effective period / Period of releases: 2000 - 2002

In the summer of 1998, Canadian Deirdre LaCarte built a website in a competition with her sister and her best friend to see who could get the most traffic. She won. Named after LaCarte's own pet Hamster (Hampton), her site featured animated hamsters dancing to an accelerated sample of Roger Miller's "Whistle Stop", from the 1973 soundtrack of the animated Disney version of "Robin Hood". After being a popular hit on the internet, it was finally remixed for an official release in 2000, and re-remixed in 2005.
Note: "Hamster" is the correct way to write the name of the rodent animal. In this case, "Hampster" (with a "P") was originally an orthographic mistake that was left in.
