Lifeseeker

Members: Marc Lariviere, Tommy!, T. Nascimento

Lifeseeker is an alternative rap/hip hop group that was formed around 1997. They are known for a genre hopping sound that combines fat drums, intense instrumentation, and sometimes humorous lyrics. Founding member Marc Lariviere came out of the Bay Area hip hop underground of the 90's. Donut Productions was his earlier group, which released an LP titled $19.95 on the MoWax label. The experimentation that began in Donut Productions took a step further with the creation of Lifeseeker. Steeped in the Psych sounds of San Francisco youth culture the group sought to push their raps in new directions. Characters and conceptual ideas were developed into songs that could last well beyond the 5 minute mark. The crew coined the term Prog Rap to describe their style. In 2006, their song Gone Guru was featured in a video game giving Lifeseeker a good amount of exposure. The song was a fan favorite and has continued to receive a steady stream of plays on various platforms. In 2008, co-founding member Tommy! passed away, leaving an empty space where once there was humor and camaraderie. Lariviere has since continued on with the group as more of a solo endeavor with help from various collaborators including DJ Appaloosa, G. Weaver, the Dutchman and Doc Props. Subsequent releases have further developed and expanded the Lifeseeker sound to include rock, pop, and even new wave stylings.
