"These piece was originally commissioned for the Sacrum Profanum Festival which takes place annually in Krakow, Poland. I love this festival, the programming is inspired and diverse and i've been lucky enough to be invited back many times, most recently in 2016. Disambiguation was part of a program dedicated to the Polish composer Lutoslawski and included new interpretations of his work Musique Funèbre which was dedicated to the composer Béla Bartók. I took part in what was called Polish Icons 2 along with Clark, One Trix Point Never, Emika and Skalpel who all performed new works alongside the Aukso Orchestra who performed the original composition. Musique Funèbre or Funeral Music comprises of 4 movements; the first is an homage to the first movement of Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta. It lays out the twelve-tone row in strict canon, first by two solo cellos, followed by a solo viola, eventually joined by the full string orchestra. I decided to take a percussive approach to the work as a whole, using mostly found sound to create my orchestral palette. I looked to the rhythmic rather than harmonic structure for inspiration in creating my own homage."
