Anna Records

US R&B and soul label founded in 1958 in Detroit, Michigan by Anna Gordy and Billy Davis (2).

For unofficial releases pretending to be on Anna Records, use Anna Records (7) please.

Gwen Gordy and brother Berry Gordy had just established the Tamla-label (soon Motown would follow). Anna Records was linked to both of Berry Gordy's labels and scored a first hit in 1959 with Barrett Strong's smash “Money (That's What I Want) / Oh I Apoligize". The single, originally presented by by Berry's Tamla-label, was re-issued as Anna-Single "1111" to benefit from Anna's already established distribution contacts. Anna Records was finally absorbed into Motown in 1961.

An almost complete overview of the labels output is presented on One Of These Days - The Anna Records Story.
