Icelandic chamber choir founded in 1974
The chamber choir Hljómeyki was founded in 1974. It is one of Iceland’s finest choirs. It focuses mainly on contemporary Icelandic music, commissioning at least one major work annually. Hljómeyki has represented Iceland in choral competitions and festivals, and has published 5 CD’s with Icelandic music. In recent years it has frequently collaborated with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Other recent projects include Schnittke’s Concerto for Choir and Rachmaninov’s Vespers. Hljómeyki’s conductor is Marta G. Halldórsdóttir.
