Mother Empire's dark, melodic synth rock is a careful mix of chord progressions, synths and guitar riffs. Many musical elements are reminiscent of the "new romance" and bands such as Depeche Mode , Tears for Fears , and Talk Talk . Nevertheless, the Danes have their own style and the influences from the 1980s are always kept under control by the influences of contemporary bands like The National or The War on Drugs .
