Georg Joseph Vogler

German composer, organ player and priest. Born June 15, 1749 in Würzburg and died May 6, 1814 in Darmstadt.
Also known as Abbé Vogler

After ordination and studies in Italy, Vogler was employed in 1777 at the Elector's court in Mannheim. In 1786 he was called to Gustav III's court in Sweden, and was so-called "music director" (director of music) at the Royal Opera 1786–1791 and 1793–1799. One of his first initiatives was to start a "national music school" in Sweden.

Famous for the Christmas carol Hosianna, Davids Son composed around 1795.
