Biography

Peter Seeger
German composer, music educator, and conductor (January 5, 1919, Berlin - July 7, 2008).
For the folk singer/songwriter, use Pete Seeger.
As a composer, he wrote mainly choral and brass music. Seeger studied at Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik in Berlin from 1936 to 1940 with Kurt Thomas (choir direction), Fritz Stein (2) and Professor Walther Gmeindl (orchestra direction), as well as with Heinz Tiessen and Paul Höffer (composition). After the war he became music director at Musikschule Offenburg/Ortenau in 1947, where he conducted the Stadtkapelle “Harmonie” Kehl-Sundheim. In 1957, he became music teacher at Heimschule Lender in Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl and music teacher in 1960 at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Gymnasium in Mannheim (Kantorei des Johann Sebastian Bach-Gymnasiums Mannheim). He was also federal choir master in the Baden Singers' Association (Badischen Sängerbund).
