Ramón Prada
Real name: Ramón Prada Blanco
Spanish composer (born in Cangas de Onís, Asturias), he studied piano, organ, harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Principado de Asturias. He was an organist in Cangas de Onís from 1978 to 2000. He has composed several works for choir, organ, piano, chamber music, orchestra and electronics. He also has written, arranged and performed music for numerous pop and folk artists, and has composed music for advertising, theater plays and films. He has been awarded with the 1st Prize of composition for Asturian traditional instruments (1994 and 1995), AMAS Award for best Asturian composer (2006) and best original soundtrack (2009), Critics Award for the best composer (2008), and Oh! Award for the best original soundtrack (2011). He is a founding member of electronic rock group SÖAX.Among his compositions, these are highlighted:
- "La Noche Celta" (1995). Celtic symphonic poem (it was arranged and recorded for orchestra by the Orquesta Sinfónica Del Principado de Asturias in 1998).
- "Epicedio" (1999). Orchestral symphonic poem. Commissioned work by Orquesta Sinfónica Del Principado de Asturias.
- "Pequeño Libro Acerca de Bach" (2000). For string orchestra and harpsichord.
- "Missa Archaica" (2000). For string orchestra and mixed choir.
- "Ástura" (2003). For symphonic orchestra and traditional music performers.
- "Requiem for Persia" (2003). For symphonic orchestra and electroacoustic devices.
- "Ciclo de Canciones para Voz y Piano sobre Poemas de Ángel González" (2004). Commissioned work by Joaquín Pixán.
- "Keltikhé" (2004). Cantata for Celtics and orchestra. There's a 2.0. version (2008) for piano, electronic devices, MIDI bagpipe and visuals.
- "Veinte Canciones de Amor y un Poema Desesperado" (2004). Improvised music.
- "Deconstructed Music #1" (2006). Multimedia project by Colectivo Ran (Ramón Prada, Carlos Navarro and Javier González).
- "Diferencias sobre Gaudeamus Igitur" (2007). Organ work commissioned by Universidad De Oviedo.
- "Laberture" (2007). For soprano, string quartet and electronic devices, commissioned by the Government of the Principality of Asturias.
- "Proyecto MUMS" (2008). For chamber music and live electronics.
- "Digital_live" (2009). For live electronics.
- "Manic Miner/Vals para Minero con Pala" (2009). Experimental music with field recordings.
