During WWII he used to sign his compositions under alias E. Ciru, forced by his hebrew origins.
Studied at the Conservatory of București.
Was conductor at the "Barașeum" Theatre (1942-1944), "Gioconda" Theatre (1944-1948), musical director and conductor at the ''Teatrul de Revista București'' (1950-1958).
He wrote operettas and musicals, and is the author over 200 songs, out of which 150 entered the Radio's sound archives, and dozens of them became hits.
Received the State Prize (1953), and was awarded with the distinction of Artist Emeritus (1962).
His compositions also won numerous prizes, such as the National Music Awards Festival Mamaia (1963, 1964, 1969, 1971), the Union of Composers and Musicologists Awards in România (1971, 1977, 1978 ), Union of Composers Festival Prize "Golden Chrysanthemum", Târgoviște, 1980.
