John Yalley

Real name: David Wanyou

John Yalley, born David Wanyou in 1955 in Gagnoa, is an Ivorian singer.
In the 1980s, he took the name of John Mayal. This is the time when he scoured the clubs of Abidjan with his group, the Black Devils. He would later join Les Scorpions then Les Shafts, after having been known as a Ziglibithy dancer alongside Ernesto Djédjé.
In 1985, he appeared on stage at the Houphouët-Boigny stadium with zêzê-pop. He did not then experience the expected success. But from the 1990s, begins for the zêzê-pop, an important recognition. John Mayal becomes John Yalley. The name means "suffering" in Bété.
Later John Yalley creates Les Kyffys (The Chefs), a transnational group and then takes the name of John Kyffys. With his companions, John Yalley enjoyed dazzling success, both in Côte d'Ivoire and outside the borders of his country of origin.
