Djur Djura

Effective period / Period of releases: 1979 - 1993

Members: Fatima (4), Djura Abouda, Malha

Originally Djurdjura is a high-mountainous area in Algeria but in 1979 this name was used by a trio of sisters from Kabylie (Algeria) when they founded a music band, their names are Djouhra, Fatima & Malha.
Djouhra (Djura Abouda) was the main vocalist and songwriter. Her style mixed traditional Berber folk melodies with poetry about the struggle of women in oppressive societies. Since 1986, the name Djur Djura (in 2 words) was adopted as a stage name by Djouhra when she went in a solo career due to family disputes. Many years later, her two sisters Malha & Fatima formed a trio (Tiziri) with their other sister Hafida.
