Les Sphinx
Members: Roger Calvert, André Corbellani, Pierre Rachel, Michel Ancian, Jean-Pierre Axel, Lyvio Buttignol, Gilbert Varraine
In 1962, in Lyon, Les Sphinxes, influenced by The Shadows, form an instrumental group with Livio Buttignol and Gilbert Varraine (guitars),Nino Matteï (bass) and Pierrot Rachel (drums). For their first visit to the West Side, they are reinforced by Jean-Pierre Axel (vocals) and Jean-Claude Thomas (piano),
quickly replaced by André Corbellani. Following the accidental disappearance of Nino Matteï, Michel Ancian takes up the bass.
At the beginning of 1965, they returned to the Lyonnais label JBP in a reconstituted band with Roger Calvert (vocals), Livio Buttignol (guitar solo),
Jean-Louis Almosino (guitar), Michel Ancian (bass) and Jeannot Sevret (drums).
Alain Forestier then succeeds the singing to Roger Calvert and the repertoire of Les Sphnix evolves before separating in 1967.
