Bachelors Anonymous was created by Robert Berg and David Hughes, who met in Pasadena at a Catholic choir in 1984. That fall they collaborated with John Fleck, Lance Loud, and Charlotte McGuinness on Donald Krieger and Kristian Hoffman’s first Zombie Jamboree at The Lhasa Club. They formed as a duo later that year, taking the name Bachelors Anonymous from gay groundbreaker Harry Hay’s 1948 prospectus for the International Bachelors’ Fraternal Order for Peace & Social Dignity, Sometimes Referred to as Bachelors Anonymous. Their Jan. 24, 1985 debut was at Anticlub, Los Angeles (on the bill: Scott Carter, Fred Wolf, and Marsha Mann & Radames Pera). They were known for their candid songs and theatrical presentation. As well as performing and recording, the Bachelors created scores for theater and dance.
