Real name: Sidney Torchinsky

British pianist, conductor, arranger and composer.
Born June 5, 1908 in St Pancras, London, United Kingdom.
Died July 16, 1990 (age of 82) in Eastbourne, Sussex.
Sidney studied piano at the Blackheath Conservatoire, then became accompanist to violinist Albert Sandler and an organist at cinemas.
Torch composed many pieces for the BBC, particularly the theme tunes for radio and television shows. His light-orchestral works are still very-often heard today, and American audiences remember his music from movie trailers, especially from drive-in theatres.
