Infected Mushroom

Real name: אינפקטד מאשרום (המקורית)

Effective period / Period of releases: 1993

Members: Amir Shoat, Shay Miara, Yonathan "John" Acker, Asaf Avramovich

Punk/Post Punk/Goth Rock band from Nahariya, Israel, active between 1987-1994.

In 1991 the band appeared on the Various - החדששני album with one song, but decided to be credited under the alias "גוסטבוס" (Gustavos) instead of its real name because the song was performed in pop style, which didn't reflect the band's true sound.

In 1993, the band released its only album, "Don't Panic", compiled of select demos and sold only through the Third Ear store. After its release, lead singer Amir Shoat and bassist John Acker, together with the guitarist Shachaf Barkai, formed a side project called "הפרפר המכני" (Haparpar Hamechani = The Mechanic Butterfly) which was in techno style. The project was short-lived, and came to its end after the release of their first and only single, "המשיח הגיע" (HaMashiach Hegi'a = Messiah Is Here), with one of its two versions featuring opera singer Rinat Shaham as guest vocalist.

After Infected Mushroom broke up, Shoat, Acker and Barkai relocated to London and reformed the band under the shortened name "Infected". Their only album under that incarnation, called "Breathe", came out in 1996.

In 2001, "Don't Panic" was rereleased on CD through Fact Records.

The famous trance duo Infected Mushroom "borrowed" its name from the band, so they're sometimes referred as "Infected Mushroom (The Original)" to prevent confusion between the two groups.
