Rockabilly musician who became the lead singer of The Crickets (2) after the death of Buddy Holly.(born March 6, 1939 Chalk Mountain, Texas. Died 2019.
By 1965 he was a solo act, recording with Mike Curb in Los Angeles. They produced an evocative, blue-eyed soul sound which was picked up by "northern soul DJ's" in the late 70s and became hugely popular.
