Государственная Хоровая Капелла Марийской АССР
Effective period / Period of releases: 1984
The choir chapel was created in December 1933 by a young but famous composer Алексей Искандаров, who had just graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and returned to Yoshkar-Ola. It included 24 professional performers of folk songs and works by Mari composers. In 1939, on the basis of the chapel, the "Song and Dance Ensemble of the Mari ASSR" was founded, which actually could be considered the closure, but not the termination of the choir's activities. Aleksey Iskandarovich remained the artistic director and chief conductor of the new group until December 1954, when it became difficult to act as the head of the group and at the same time chairman of the Union of Composers.
After 40 years, in 1979, the Choir Chapel was re-established at the Margosphilarmonic Society, which included members of the choral group of the Song and Dance Ensemble. In 1994, the chapel was given the name of the first head, and it became known as the Mari State Chapel named after A. I. Iskandarov.
