Schimbu' 3 was founded in September 2020 by katargu' (then Sindrom), Bilă and Bujie as Foamea. Shortly after its founding, DJ Ceaşcă joined, but disagreements among the members resulted in Bujie leaving the group. A name change to Trotil followed. Bilă left in the summer of 2021, and Tufan replaced him. During that same year, the group rebranded several times, finally settling on Schimbu' 3. In late 2021, mefiul joined the band after katargu' found out about his talents. In April 2022, katargu' and DJ Ceaşcă released an album together, Poarta 4, on which all four of the members at the time appeared. Tufan left the group shortly after its release. The group's first album, Șah Mat, was supposed to arrive at the end of September 2022. In August, a single, Rom, was released to promote it. However, the release date was pushed back indefinitely. Finally, the album was released in March 2023.
