Christopher Tyng

Effective period / Period of releases: 2015

American TV and film composer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and technologist (b. 5 August 1968, Long Beach, California). Christopher "Chris" Tyng is perhaps best known for his work on Futurama (1999–2013), producing music for 98 episodes and most feature-length specials. He also composed for several other prominent TV series, including Fox TV Network's The O.C. (2003–07), NBC's Knight Rider (2008–09), USA Network's Suits (2011–19), and FX's Rescue Me (2004–11). A few of Christopher's movie credits include the Kazaam (1996) soundtrack and one of the main themes for '97 Starship Troopers. Chris Tyng holds numerous awards from BMI and SESAC.

Tyng's opening theme for Futurama won the OFTA Television Award for "Best New Series Theme Song" from Online Film & Television Association in 1999. Praised for innovative sample collaging, the short instrumental track combined the bells from Pierre Henry's 1970 Psyché Rock on semitones with, perhaps, two of the most iconic drum samples of all time: the "amen break" and Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight beat.
