Gates Of Eden

Effective period / Period of releases: 1966 - 1967

Members: Roger Matthews (3)

English Freakbeat R&B band who named themselves after the Bob Dylan song and cut three singles for Pye before disbanding in mid-1967. Their first effort was a fairly respectable cover of the Kinks song "Too Much On My Mind". The follow-up was an awful rendition of "Snoopy Vs.The Red Baron". With one last chance of a hit, they chose two original songs written by singer/guitarist Roger Matthews, "1 to 7", by far their best single, was championed by Radio London DJ John Peel as his Record Of The Week.

Not to be confused with US-band The Gates Of Eden on Warner Bros.
