The Vienna Improvisers Orchestra works on instant compositions using the method of 'instant composition conducting' (similar to Lawrence D. 'Butch' Morris' 'conduction'). The orchestra performs in changing line-ups and with new participants all the time. The VIO has been a guest at festivals for improvised music and contemporary composed music such as the Moers Festival, Wien Modern, Artacts Festival, as well as venues such as the Porgy & Bess Vienna and spaces of the fine arts such as Künstlerhaus Wien, Belvedere21, Vienna Art Week Festival and others. The VIO was founded in 2004 by Michael Fischer (4), who is its instant composition conductor and artistic director since then.
