Caliph8
Real name: Egisto Leuter
Caliph8 is a composer, and performs live.He bridges street sensibilities with experimentation and explores the implication of merging, summing and hybridization, creating a new cultural syntax out of the debris of the already-given.
His main tool is the MPC where he deploys an arsenal of beats, one-note samples and deconstructed audio cut and paste sound collage.
For the past 19 years, he has been active in Manila, primarily involved with the local outsider culture.
As a sound creator and vinyl archivist, his background spans from true school hip-hop, experimental, folk, no wave, sound art, soul, rare grooves, exotica, kraut rock, jazz, psychedelia among others.
He combines all of these elements and creates a hybrid permutation of a gut wrenching aural blast, leaving the listener dumb founded or mind expanded.
In 2013 he released a beat tape called “Derelict Features of the Domain” on SVBKVLT (Shanghai) label and the album “Stillborn Etudes” on Dub Temple Records (Brisbane).
He recently released an album, REALIZED PATTERNS & SPLINTERED SEQUENCES in CD Format on O-RICH (Japan).
