Laonikos Psimikakis Chalkokondylis
Real name: Laonikos Psimikakis Chalkokondylis = Λαόνικος Ψιμικάκης Χαλκοκονδύλης
Laonikos Psimikakis Chalkokondylis (b. 1989) is a Greek composer and shakuhachi player based in London. His latest album ‘loess’ was released in October 2022 by the Netherlands-based Slow Tone Collages (Shimmering Moods Records). He is a trained wilderness guide and in his music he explores the relationship between ourselves and the more-than-human: how do we reinvent our place in the larger scheme of things in a way that blends in, that relates creatively and playfully to the world around us? Laonikos is a Making Tracks 2020 Fellow, and over his career has performed in venues such as Barbican Centre, Kings Place, The Place, Sarawak Parliament (Malaysia), Helsinki City Centre (Finland), and Hoxton Underground, and has appeared on BBC3 ‘Hear and now’ and on Resonance FM. He has composed over 100 works, written for film and dance, runs a small workshop repairing shakuhachi, and works as an accredited professional coachHe was awarded a DYCP Grant from Arts Council England in 2022 to deepen his shakuhachi project and is studying with Clive Bell, Riley Lee and Kakizakai Kaoru.
