Anton Seifert

Austrian military bandmaster and composer (b. September 2, 1826 in Preßnitz near Saaz, Bohemia [today Přísečnice, Czech Republic] – d. 28 November 1873 in Krakau, Austria-Hungary [today Kraków, Poland]).

The son of a lace trader, Seifert joined the Infanterie-Regiment Erzherzog Wilhelm Nr. 12 (Hungary) as a flugelhorn player in 1845. In Prague, he studied under Militärkapellmeister Johann Schubert. From 1861 to his death of lung disease in 1873, he served as Kapellmeister (band leader) of his regiment.

In 1861, while his unit was stationed in Wolfsberg, Carinthia, he composed his most famous piece, the "Kärntner Liedermarsch" ("March on Carinthian Songs") (op. 80). In addition, he composed dozens of marches and dance music.
