The Patients are a hauntology/plunderphonic moniker founded and lead by PXTSERYU during June of 2022. The group's first release was vCJD, a 4-part series of albums aiming to improve on 2021's CJD, while swapping covers in the vein of Everywhere in a Different Universe.

The second release under The Patients moniker - named Milwaukee Protocol (and originally intended to be a much shorter Halloween release) - took on a far more experimental approach compared to vCJD, drawing inspiration from more general plunderphonics such as The Avalanches and Vanilla, featuring field recordings, dialogue, harsher noise, and a more modern timeframe. The project itself aimed to explore the progression of human rabies.

The legacy of the Patients' moniker has widely been regarded as producing high quality projects that explore new and interesting concepts. Many in the community would go on to take inspiration from The Patients releases - notable examples including Context Switch's Light And Darkness and the latter two years of Nowhere at the Millennium of Space: Redux. The group and their releases are often seen alongside Nowhere at the Millennium of Space: Redux as a catalyst for the surge of more unique and explorative projects in the Caretaker fan project community.
