One of the founding members of Charlies Roots, where he played saxophone. Later, Tambu set out as a solo singer and became one of the few calypsonians to achieve a Road March 'hat trick', winning three years in a row in 1988, 1989, and 1990. However, at the height of his success, he left Trinidad for Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music, ending his streak of hits. After his return, he gave up calypso and soca to become a gospel artist.
