US modern soul group from New Orleans. The band moved in the 1970s to Detroit, Michigan, where they were managed by members of The Temptations, whom Louisiana Purchase also toured with as supporting act. The group included Arthur Booker Jr (lead and background vocals), Charles Elam III (sax, lead and background vocals), Herman Ernest (percussion), Ronald Ernest (guitar), Atwood Jones (keyboards), Terry Manuel (keyboards, lead, background vocals), Barry Sailor (bass), Donald Whitlow (lead and background vocals), Brennan Williams (drums, keyboards), Warner Williams (alto-tenor sax, keyboards). Louisiana Purchase at one time backed Swiss Movement
