Biography

Gunnar

Gunnar "Nu" Hansen

Real name: Gunnar Valdemar Hansen

Effective period / Period of releases: 1984

Legendary Danish sports reporter (1905-1993) with a career spanning from the 1930's to the 1990's for the Danish national broadcasting organisation, Danmarks Radio. An early career highlight was his radio reporting from the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Gunnar Hansen earned his "Nu" nickname from his enthusiastic and speedy reporting and his frequent - too frequent for the taste of some radio listeners - use of the "nu" word (Danish for "Now"). For many years he was the radio commentator for Danmarks Radio at soccer nationals and later also on television, becoming Denmark's first sports reporter/commentator superstar, maybe even overall radio superstar. Aged 78 he rapped on Rap Nu, the Danish anthem for the UEFA Euro 1984. Posthumously a public space close to the Copenhagen Athletic Stadion was named after him.
