Savoy was a Romanian pop rock music band well known during 70's and 80's. At first, the band was supported by Margareta Pâslaru.
Originally called "Portativ", was named "Savoy" after the theatre hall Savoy of Theatre Constantin Tanase where, by '69 - '70, had held their rehearsals. Nicolae Stroe and Alexandru Arșinel thought it would be good that the band to be named '"Savoy'', with the name of the hall.
The memners where: Marian Nistor - vocals, guitar and founder, Ionel Samuilă - bass guitar, Ionel Orban - keyboards, Nichi Rotărescu - drums and George Mitrea - vocals, guitar, percussion.
The band disbanded in 1992, but Marian Nistor, it's leader, compose and sing today under the name of Savoy. Together with current wife, Dorina, drew several compilations that preserves sound Savoy.
