US/UK-Prog/Psychedelic band. They started out in Riverside, California in late 1963 as The Blue Notes, playing Surf music. After some comings and goings, they finally completed their line-up in 1965, changing their name to The Misunderstood.
During one of their live perfomances they met English DJ John Ravenscroft, a.k.a. John Peel, who was hooked and began to act as their mentor. It was probably his suggestion that The Misunderstood move to London in 1966, where with some help from John Peel's brother Alan Ravenscroft they managed to land a deal with Fontana Records. Their style now ranged from progressive blues to psychedelic (especially live).

But in London things started to go wrong. Due to the drug problems of two members and the US army draft of one, the band line-up changed several times and they finally split a few months later in early 1967.
Despite their short existence of only two years, The Misunderstood managed to leave their mark in the history books along with such contemporaries as Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd.
