At the age of six he began playing the Spanish guitar and studying music at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Granada.

In 1982, with Juan Enrique Moreno and Carlos Gilabert, he formed his first semi-professional band, La Guardia Del Cardenal Richelieu, which two years later became La Guardia and in 1986 recorded its first album in London: La Guardia - Noches Como Esta.

Manuel España was in La Guardia with great success until 1997 and in 2000 he reappeared with his new group, CChamaco, with which he released two albums: Chamaco - Chamaco and Chamaco - Desayuno Para Chihuahuas.

In 2003 he decided to re-form La Guardia, mostly as a result as a result of requests from the public, who demanded to see the group live again.
