Nene Tchakou
Real name: Nene Mbendi Mandosa

Guitarist, born in 1957, in Banana, Bas Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo..Joined Bella Nigrita around 1973, before moving to Langa Langa Stars. At that time he took the name 'Tchakou' (= parrot) later joining Orchestre Minzoto Wella-Wella. In 1983 he joined Grand Zaiko Wawa. By the mid 1980s the wave of Congolese musicians migrating through West Africa to Paris gained momemtum, and having joined the Nigerian session band Zaïstars he moved to Paris, France. In Paris he became one of the founding members of the Soukous Stars in 1989, and was the second resident solo guitarist of the group. During this time he also became well known as a session guitarist having worked with many Soukous musicians during the 1990s.
In 2002 he moved to Stockton, California to work as an arranger with Rowa Records.
He died on January, 28th 2022.
