Born in Gaoyang County, Hebei, China, February 23, 1910 or 1911; died in Taipei, Taiwan, June 28, 2000. Composer, player and author of textbooks regarding the guzheng or cheng, a Chinese traditional zither.

Graduated from Beijing Jiaotong University with a major in applied science. After moving to Taipei in 1949 he became president of the Chinese Classical Music Association and Director of the College of Chinese Culture.
