Phil Bell (born Hamilton, New Zealand) took up the name DJ Sir-Vere over 20 years ago, though he’s never been just a turntablist. Sir-Vere is a hip hop pioneer and kiwi icon. He has always been at the forefront of the movement. His extraordinary career has included roles as varied as gig promoter, magazine editor, television presenter, and radio station programme director for Mai FM. In 2018 he was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to music.
