Ike White

Effective period / Period of releases: 1976

American funk/soul guitarist and Keyboardist (born in California in 1945; died in California in 2014). Released one album, after being courted by Jerry Goldstein whilst still in prison for murder.

He was charged and sentenced for murder in 1964 at the age of 19 and received a life sentence. He was released from CDCR Prison in San Luis Obispo after 14 years in 1979, following active campaigning. He then disappeared, living under a number of aliases including David Ontiveros (his mother's maiden name), David White and finally David Maestro under which he self-released two albums.

He committed suicide by hanging at his home in Oceanside, California in 2014, just two weeks after he was tracked down, approached and interviewed by the production crew of a documentary film which was released in 2019 as "The Changin' Times of Ike White".

His sole album, 'Ike White - Changin' Times' (1976), was recorded while doing time in San Quentin State Prison in 1974.
