Sintayehu Belay
Sintayehu Belay, with her emotionally-rich voice, captivated hearts during her audition on Fana Lamrot, a major music competition in Ethiopia. Born in Wollo Raya Kobo, Amhara, she's the fifth child in her family. She pursued education at Kobo Catholic School, Kobo High School, and Dessie Teachers' College.
Losing her sight at 15 months, music became Sintayehu's lifelong companion. Discovered by her landlord while singing, she joined the local traditional music group "Fana Raya," kickstarting her musical journey.
Sintayehu's debut EP "Tsedey" showcases five songs, including the track "Abanenegn" with a music video. She blends modern style with traditional Azmari techniques, influenced by Aster Awoke and Hamelmal Abate. Producer Girum Mezmur fuses Ethiopian modes, rhythms, and instruments like Kirar and Masinko with West African elements.
This release holds immense personal significance, as music remained Sintayehu's unwavering friend through life's challenges.
