French funk group founded in Paris in 1988.
After organizing the "Chez Roger Boîte Funk" weekend club parties (with DJ Dee Nasty and Loïc Dury) in 1987, Joseph Guigui and Laurent "Isaac" Cohen, guitarist and trombonist of the Human Spirit band, decided to create a French funk band . Accompanied by François Bercovici (vocals), Stéphane Malca (keyboard), Anne "Elka" Possompes (vocals), Dany'O Thomasi (bass), Séb Dupouey (drums), Woody Braun (sax), Gilles Garin (trumpet) , Hervé Sfez aka Xeus (keyboards) and Manu Azria (manager) the combo quickly became one of the most sensational stage formations of the 1990s. Their first self-produced album "Malka On The Beach" was released in 1991, and tours were held throughout France. The concerts, real costumed show always filling were often followed by the "(Tous à la) Discomobile" party all night. Rico Adiko (guitar) and Yvan Tamayo (percussion) were added to the band and in 1992, Warner France signed them for a second album "Tous Des Oufs", a P-Funk space opera featuring Sidney Duteil, Dee Nasty, Marco Prince and Juan Rozoff. After touring France, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Denmark (Roskilde Festival) and Japan the group becomes independent again and records a record with Big Cheese Records (Fricassé De Funk), two new choristers Gilda Peter and Fabrice "Beyonder" Mbea integrate the band, quickly joined by Jay "Funkmaster Jizzle" Murphy on keyboards. Malka Family has shared the stage with Daft Punk, INXS, Beck, Jazzmatazz, MC Solar, Manu Dibango, Vanessa Paradis, Manu Chao, Keziah Jones, Roy Ayers, Khaled, Village People, IAM, Michel Fugain, Cheb Mami, Zao, Zebda, Son Of Bazerk. Due to heavyweight logistics (the band included more than 14 people on the road) Malka Family separates just after the release in 1997 of their latest album Fotoukonkass (RCA / BMG) recorded with Renaud Letang. After a long 18 years break, the band is back in spring 2015 and gives a series of concert in Paris and in France. In 2017 a new album comes out : "Le Retour Du Kif".
