Biography
Joe Paradise And His Music
Effective period / Period of releases: 1936
Members: Philip Green, Laurie Bookin, Joe Young (10), Albert Pike, George Senior, Martin Smuts
There was no such person as Joe Paradise. This group was probably organised during 1935 by Phil Green who played piano-celeste-harpsichord on all records under this name. The group was initially modelled on the Quintette of the Hot Club of France with a similar instrumentation and featured a violinist and some of the best British jazz guitarists of the period (Albert Harris, Freddy Watson & George Elliott). From the end of 1935 until mid-1936 during which time this group made it's final recordings it had morphed into a more conventional jazz group with a sax player and only one guitarist.
