Zis was born on December 14, 1931, in Kobilje, near Bruce. He finished elementary school in his hometown and then high school of Economics in Kruševac. He was in permanent employment and music was his supplementary activity. His work biography states that he worked as an official for many years, almost four decades. In one period, for about nine years, he was also the director of Hotel "Zvezda" in Brus, and he also worked in the Socialist Union of the Working People of Yugoslavia. He spent a certain part of his life in Belgrade building a musical career.
