Clive Wearing (b. 11 May 1938) was a British conductor and expert in early Western music (Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque). He worked as the musical content director for BBC Radio 3 from 1981 to 1985 when he suffered an acute case of herpesviral encephalitis. After recovery, Wearing was diagnosed with chronic anterograde and retrograde amnesia. With a memory only as long as 7 seconds, he was unable to continue his career in music. He has been the subject of multiple documentaries.
