The Flippers

Effective period / Period of releases: 1965

Members: Jan Larsson (4), Kenneth Backelin, Henrik Ljungström (2), Sten Larsson (3)

Swedish pop/rock band formed 1963, by four friends from Säter in Dalarna as a The Shadows influenced band; The Spiders.

Jan Larsson and Kenneth Backelin guitar, Henrik Ljungström bass and Sten Larsson drums. When the Beatles broke through in 1963, there was both a music and a name change to The Flippers and the previously relatively long hair was combed down and the pomade was washed out. Shadows was abandoned and instead bands including the Beatles, Animals, Kinks, Zombies, Rolling Stones, The Who and others entered the repertoire. The big breakthrough for the band took place in May 1965 when, via a number of sub-competitions, they came in second place in the final of Sveriges Radio's Pop and Twist band competition which was broadcast live on TV from Cirkus in Stockholm. The competition was won by the Gothenburg band Tronics.
