Inger Wikström

Real name: Inger Elvi Margareta Wikström

Swedish pianist, composer and conductor, born 11 December 1939 in Gothenburg.

She graduated as a music teacher at Stockholm's Citizens' School in 1958. She made her debut in the same city in 1956, in London in 1959 and has toured in the USA, Europe, Russia, Asia, South America, Africa. She has given concerts on radio and TV and made recordings.

She has written the book Rapsodi (1975), composed songs for lyrics by Rainer Maria Rilke, the children's opera "Junker Nils av Eka" to lyrics by Astrid Lindgren and the opera "Den fredlöse" to lyrics by August Strindberg.

Wikström has run the Nordic Music Conservatory, NMK, since 1977, which she founded this year together with the concert violinist David Bartov. She was elected a member of the Swedish Composers' Association in 1987.
