Gutura

Effective period / Period of releases: 1980

Members: Jean-Philippe Strinati, Didier Chaud-Froid, Sylvie Strinati, Alain Barrandon, Michel Geoffroy (2)

Rock band from Paris, France. They had a history going back to 1972, choosing the name Gutura in 1976. Little is documented other than that, except that Jean-Philippe Strinati was the leader, and his sister Sylvie Strinati joined in 1979 shortly before Hervé Bergerat (formerly owner of Saravah) signed them up to his new label Sterne. The band never existed much beyond the release of their sole album, as their synthesizer player died before its release. The album is unique in French rock in that it combines old French prog with cutting-edge new-wave underground and some of the craziest female vocals ever committed to record.
